New Harvest Homestead
Steadfast at Home
Things have changed an awful lot since our grandmother's day. Even if a wife and mother does not work outside the home, the demands on her time can be overwhelming. In the introductory issue of New Harvest Homestead, I'm going to try to tackle this tricky subject. In keeping with our philosophy here on the homestead, I'll make the case for simply staying home more.
Start a Titus 2 Group!
For many years, I have opened my home for "Titus 2" meetings. In keeping with the admonition of Titus 2:3-5 for older women to teach the younger women not only spiritual wisdom, but practical skills, I have invited women young and old to come share and learn. We have tackled baby care, gardening, bread-baking, knitting, canning and food preservation - you name it! We don't just talk about these things either - we DO them. While we are involved in the various activities of the day, our conversation will often turn to spiritual things, sharing with one another wisdom for living as Christian wives and mothers.
I usually schedule these meetings every six weeks or so, because most moms have too much on their plate for even a once-a-month get together. We take an entire afternoon, typically starting at 11:00 a.m. and ending at 3:00 p.m.
Pray about starting a Titus 2 group of your own. There is no clearer command in scripture for us older wives and mothers, and yet many of us do not fulfill that command. Young wives and mothers need more than just an occasional bible study on being a Christian woman, they need hands on instruction and one on one encouragement in the skills and knowledge involved in wifehood and motherhood.
